Light of Colors Prologue

It was the usual evening for the family with the adults wandering, acting like teenagers kissing, as if they weren't married and had three kids – no teenagers to take care of, but instead they focused on each other shivers going up their spines as snow fell around the two of them and leaving them in their own little world.

A cough was heard with the couple breaking apart, looking towards the one who coughed wearing unashamed smiles as their only son looked at them with small smile.

“Mom, Dad, dinner's ready and you know how Dove gets when she doesn't get her food in time.” He smiled wearily and headed back in the house, seemingly unaffected on how childish his parents acted at times but he still loved them even though he knew he would have to move away from the house one day but for now he was happy.

“We're coming.” Lace said and kissed her husband's cheek, Merlot, afterward patting his cold cheek and heading back into the house with smile worn and Merlot following closely behind her.

It was a typical family dinner between the five family members, the usual conversations, Dove stabbing her food and laughing, Wisteria chattering away to whoever will listen, and Fog sitting silently as he listened to his surroundings.

“I plan on moving out.”

Silence is what greeted him and Fog squirmed in his seat as he watched their reactions, wondering if he would regret this decision but relief washed over him when he saw Lace smile and place her fork down.

"Are you really sure about this, Fog? You're still a teenager and have plenty of life ahead of you, I'll gladly agree to you moving out but you have to be really sure of this." Lace looked over to Merlot who was lost in thought of one of his children already wanting to move out and Fog bit his lower lip before Merlot spoke.

"Son...it's your decision and you're old enough to make this decision, all I ask is that you check up on your mother and I for we'll miss you."
He smiled and ruffled Fog's hair with a laugh smiling warmly at his only son as the tension faded from the table and the excited chatter continued.

Lace looked to Fog, "Let's go out and play in the snow for some talk, how about it?" She smiled and moved to clear the plates from the table and into the dish washer, cleaning her hands, and heading outside to their backyard.

They begun to make their snowman with their occasional snowball thrown at each other as any worries they might of held were pushed to the back of their minds for now.

Lace spoke up first, "Do you know if you plan on staying in town or are you going to move elsewhere, to experience new places?" She looked at him with such caring in her eyes that it made his heart ache that he was leaving his mother here.

"I had thoughts of trying out a place called Mallow Marsh Falls and that there are a lot of creatures of people that live there, plus there are even some normal skin people but it's not as bright and cheerful as Sugar Valley. I feel like it might broaden my view of everything and well...would you and father want to come with me? I mean...we might not be living in the same house but we wouldn't be far apart?" He patted the snowman nervously and avoided looking into her eyes for the reaction.

He was engulfed in his mother's arms as her hands stroked his back and he looked up at her to see a teary eyes, making him panic for a moment that he made her cry but she simply kissed his forehead.

"Of course we'll go with you. Your sisters will be fine here and we'll also be able to keep a eye on you, see how your life goes and I hope we live long enough to see you have some children." She smiled wearily and brushed hair away from his face, kissing his forehead once more, "And maybe you'll learn some things about our family..."She whispered where he couldn't hear her.

Tears sprung up and he burrowed his face into her shoulder, they were happy tears, but the fact he wouldn't be totally alone when he moved to a new town was enough for him to be happy. The hug broke and they looked at each other, brushing away any tears that may of fallen.

"Let's get to packing shall we?" Lace smiled and they went back into the house to make the arrangements for the move.
